The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer text overall was a good informative text on the Windows Installer framework. It felt like a cross of a how to guide and a Reference Book. The text had plenty of detail and examples witch made it informative however for some reason it seemed a bit overloaded with information. It could have been a little easier to read if there was an effective way to omit the references to ORCA.
The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer text functioned well as a how to book however I felt it was more like an advanced version of a how to text. This was the case because of the ORCA references were good but unexpected.
I would like to make a few suggestions on how to reorganize the text to create a more comfortable reading experience. Reorganize the text in two parts, with a basic use of the Windows Installer framework that is geared to only what is pertinent to Visual Studio and .Net and the second part with advanced topics making using the references to ORCA.
Also Chapter 5 Sequences of Events and Custom Actions could be developed into two separate chapters focusing on each topic.
Overall a good text with lots of information. Most of the concepts were discussed very well and completely.
