With Microsoft's new focus on security, it is important for developers to design applications with security in mind. This book explains the pieces of the windows security design in a readable question and answer model. It starts with the very basic concepts and drills down to the details of object level permissions. There are plenty of screenshots and code samples to explain the how windows security manages access to resources.
In the back of the book, the Miscellaneous section, there are some practical tips and a few features of Visual Studio 2005 to look forward to. I found a solution that I have been stumped on in this section.
My only problem with the book is that it jumps from one topic to the next. The first part of the book is a good introduction to security. After that it's like an encyclopedia with short sections describing individual components of windows security.
I would recommend this book to get an overview of windows security and some general security solutions. There are probably more detailed (and much thicker) books about the components of windows security. For anyone looking for an introduction to windows security, this is a great place to start.
